Art Deco Blue Satin Glass Compote on EPNS Silverplate Base
Refined Art Deco blue satin glass compote, late 1920s–early 1930s, mounted on its original EPNS (Electro-Plated Nickel Silver) architectural pedestal.
The bowl is executed in acid-etched translucent blue satin glass, producing the coveted velvety matte glow associated with high-quality interwar decorative glass. Under black light, the glass exhibits a soft manganese fluorescence — a period-consistent reaction confirming early 20th-century glass composition.
The wide flared rim and disciplined shallow profile embody classic Art Deco geometry — symmetry, proportion, and restrained luxury. At nearly 12 inches in diameter, it presents with strong scale while maintaining elegance.
The substantial stepped pedestal is stamped EPNS and bears a circular period maker’s mark consistent with continental European silverplate production of the interwar period. The mount features tiered architectural shaping and a finely detailed decorative band, reflecting the streamlined yet ornamented aesthetic that defined luxury decorative arts between 1925–1939. This is quality electro-plated nickel silver — not later aluminum or reproduction mounting.
Mounted glass centerpieces of this caliber were produced for formal dining rooms and salons and retailed through higher-end decorative houses rather than mass-market channels. Examples in this color, size, and condition are increasingly scarce.
