Blue Mountain Pottery “Flow Blue” Glazed Vessel, Canada, 1960s

US$325.00

Vintage Canadian art pottery vessel by Blue Mountain Pottery (BMP), clearly stamped “BMP CANADA” to the base (see base photograph), executed in the firm’s iconic high-gloss flowing glaze.

This example showcases BMP’s celebrated “flow blue” aesthetic — a rich teal-turquoise field with dramatic cobalt and near-black pooling. The glaze presents with depth, movement, and tonal variation, a hallmark of mid-century Canadian studio-industrial ceramics. The organic glaze migration across the curved form creates a painterly, almost volcanic effect beneath a glassy surface.

The form is compact yet sculptural — a rounded, architectural silhouette that balances presence with refinement. Pieces in this size category are particularly desirable for curated shelf styling, console groupings, and modernist interiors where saturated glaze and reflective surface create visual impact.

Blue Mountain Pottery, founded in Ontario in 1947, became internationally recognized in the 1950s–1970s for its distinctive glaze chemistry and sculptural decorative wares. Well-preserved early-to-mid production examples with strong glaze contrast remain the most sought after.
