Calart Creations Enamel Tray, Providence RI, c.1955–63

US$135.00

Authentic mid-century modern enamel tray by Calart Creations, produced in Providence, Rhode Island, U.S.A., circa 1955–1963. The tray is clearly marked on the underside “CALART CREATIONS / PROVIDENCE R.I. / U.S.A.”. The absence of a ZIP code places production prior to widespread ZIP adoption after 1963, allowing the date range to be narrowed to the late 1950s–early 1960s. Executed in vitreous enamel on metal, the tray features a saturated emerald-green glaze with subtle tonal variation and natural pooling consistent with kiln-fired American enamelware of the post-war period. The rectangular form with gently sloped sides reflects the functional modernism favored in mid-century design—intended to move seamlessly between utility and display. Calart Creations is associated with American post-war decorative production tied to the California Artificial Flower Co., and their enamelware is increasingly recognized as legitimate American MCM design rather than decorative novelty. Marked examples in strong color are now actively sought by collectors. This piece functions well as: a serving or cocktail tray a desk or console catchall a sculptural accent in a curated mid-century interior Maker: Calart Creations Origin: Providence, Rhode Island, U.S.A. This piece is described to the best of current scholarly and market knowledge. Any maker or regional attribution is based on visual analysis, materials, construction techniques, and documented stylistic comparisons. As with many vintage and antique glass objects, definitive attribution may not be possible without original labels or factory records. Pricing reflects condition, quality, decorative appeal, and current collector demand rather than a guaranteed maker identification.
