A sculptural mid-century smoky cut lead crystal vase produced in the Bohemian glassmaking tradition of the Karlovy Vary region, circa 1955–1970. The vessel presents a striking architectural composition defined by stacked cylindrical registers deeply cut with repeating oval optic lenses framed by vertical facets.
The body rises from a sharply faceted octagonal base and terminates in a wide octagonal mouth. The smoky crystal coloration enhances the geometry of the cutting, creating rich tonal contrast and dramatic light refraction across the layered structure.
This modernist cutting style became characteristic of mid-century Bohemian export crystal, where heavy crystal blanks were transformed into sculptural decorative objects through precise hand cutting and polishing.
Under ultraviolet light the crystal displays subtle fluorescence consistent with manganese-clarified European lead crystal used in mid-twentieth-century Bohemian production.
