12" Amber Art Glass Fazzoletto Vase
A dramatic mid-century, inspired hand-blown art glass vase in rich amber, shaped in the celebrated fazzoletto (handkerchief) tradition, with a six-lobed, ruffled rim finished in a deep cobalt-to-amethyst edge. The silhouette is all movement; folded, wave-like shoulders that rise from a substantial, thick-walled base, giving the piece real architectural presence and the satisfying weight collectors look for in quality art glass.
Authenticity & Construction
The vase shows uncontrolled air bubbles throughout the body;an honest studio-glass hallmark that confirms hot-worked production rather than factory-pressed glass. The base appears exceptionally thick and polished, with a subtle symmetrical vertical groove/optic suggestion rising upward, adding depth and light-play when displayed near a window or under gallery lighting.
Attribution & Period
Design context and dating The ”fazzoletto” form is historically associated with Italian Murano design; the handkerchief concept was jointly conceived by Fulvio Bianconi and Paolo Venini in 1948, and the style was produced in many variations afterward. (The Metropolitan Museum of Art) Based on the profile, heavy base, and color treatment, this example is best placed as late 20th century, circa 1960s-1970s, in the Murano taste. Maker is unattributed due to the absence of a signature or label.
