Exceptional Pair of Victorian Teal Pressed Glass Goblets | Rare Blue-Green Tone | Circa 1890
A rare pair of Victorian pressed glass goblets in a saturated teal blue-green tone, dating to circa 1890–1910. The form is defined by deep thumbprint panels and a finely articulated serrated band, executed in early industrial metal molds with notable clarity and weight.
The glass features a richly saturated aqua tone, achieved through period metal oxide infusion, producing remarkable depth, luminosity, and tonal variation under natural and artificial light. This coloration is notably scarce compared to more commonly encountered clear or pale green examples, significantly enhancing desirability among advanced collectors.
Each goblet displays a refined pressed pattern, including pronounced oval thumbprint panels and a crisply executed serrated (zippered) band. The bowls rest on elegantly proportioned stems with balanced bases, offering both visual harmony and tactile substance.
Subtle variation in height between the two pieces is consistent with authentic period production and supports originality rather than later reproduction.
Authenticity:
A close examination—revealing clearly defined vertical mold seams, consistent pattern geometry, and an absence of irregular grain impressions—confirms that these pieces are authentic late 19th-century metal-mold pressed glass rather than hand-blown, making them highly collectible due to the rarity of their color, form, and condition.
Condition:
The piece is in excellent overall structural integrity with no observed cracks, chips, or restorations, showing only light surface wear commensurate with age and minor internal bubbles and striations inherent to its period manufacture
Dimensions:
One goblet slightly taller
One goblet slightly shorter
