Imperial Marigold Carnival Glass Cocktail Coupes, Paneled Sherbet Stems (Pair), c.1920
Set of two iridescent carnival glass sherbet or cocktail coupes featuring a crisply paneled bowl and luminous marigold surface. The flared ten-sided rim and faceted lower body create a prismatic play of light, shifting between warm amber and subtle rainbow iridescence depending on viewing angle. The slender stem and broad circular foot provide visual balance while elevating the sculptural bowl above the table surface. Decorative and functional, these early 20th-century glasses bring period character to a bar cart, dining setting, or styled interior vignette.
Attribution & Period
North American pressed carnival glass. The iridescent marigold finish, molded paneled bowl, and pressed construction are consistent with production from American carnival glass manufacturer Imperial Glass Company.
Imperial Glass Company
Bellaire, Ohio
circa 1915–1925
This earlier window is supported by:
strong marigold iridescence
slightly heavier bowl base
early-style stem join.
Pattern
The mold appears to be a simple paneled sherbet / cocktail stem, sometimes cataloged simply as “Paneled Sherbet” in Imperial stemware lines. It was not one of the named collectible carnival patterns.
Dimensions & Weight
Height: 4 1/4 in
Maximum Diameter: 2 7/8 in
Base Diameter: 2 1/4 in
Weight (each): 0.268 lb
Condition
Excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks, or structural damage observed. Surface shows normal manufacturing characteristics consistent with pressed glass, including minor mold lines and internal inclusions typical of carnival glass production.
Authenticity & Construction
Pressed glass construction with applied iridescent carnival finish. The bowls are mold-pressed with ten vertical panels that form the faceted rim geometry, then joined to a slender stem and circular foot. The metallic carnival iridescence was created by spraying metallic salts onto hot glass before reheating, producing the characteristic rainbow sheen that distinguishes early 20th-century carnival glass.
Placement
Ideal for a cocktail table, bar cart, dining console, or styled shelf. The reflective iridescent surface interacts beautifully with natural and artificial light, making these pieces particularly effective in layered interior displays alongside glass, metal, or mirrored objects.
STANDARD ATTRIBUTION & VALUE DISCLOSURE; This piece is described to the best of current scholarly and market knowledge. Any maker or regional attribution is based on visual analysis, materials, construction techniques, and documented stylistic comparisons. As with many MCM and antique glass objects, definitive attribution may not be possible without original labels or factory records. Pricing reflects condition, quality, decorative appeal, and current collector demand rather than a guaranteed maker identification.
